Aflatoxins are a carcinogenic molds, they cause liver cancer and other problems in dogs when they eat or inhale the aflatoxins, but they also effect humans. Aflatoxins occur in colonized crops, like corn, peanuts, etc. Many dog foods such as Iams have been recalled for causing dogs to fall ill yet are still being sold. Grain-free and human-grade dog foods are better, and fresh used products where you know all the ingredients. Better dog foods are going to be more expensive than the bad ones, but your dog should be more important. Keep your dog healthy by spreading awareness about aflatoxins.
This weekend we went to Barrington Park from 10:30 - 11:30 to raise
awareness and educate people about different dog foods good and bad.
We talked to and informed about 10-15 people and some were
enthusiastic and others were not. But when we prepared for this
earlier in the week, we planned the trip to Barrington Park by making
posters, making dog treats, practicing what we are going to say, and
finalizing our research. Also while preparing for the raising
awareness part of our project on Wednesday we met a veterinarian who
talked to us in a very detailed conversation on aflatoxins. We plan to
make our poster this week and plan to raise more awareness.
Earlier this week we worked on more research to become more and more familiar with the aflatoxins in
dog's food. And this weekend Sebastian, Julian, and Jacob went over to Sebastian's house to work for 1
hour. The next day Sebastian and Jacob visited a pet store called Kriser's. We met someone who worked
there named Amanda. She talked to us about pet foods and how everything in the store the owner hand
picked what is in the foods. She also told us about all natural dog foods, and how everything in the store
was healthy enough for humans to eat, so it was human-grade. We are planing to call Barrington Park on Monday May 1, 2016. We are asking them if we could show a demonstration on dog foods, good and bad. Hoping for the best!
We have changed our project idea because of unreliable sources. Now we are trying to spread awareness about aflatoxins in dog food. Plenty of dog foods have been recalled for dangerous aflatoxins, which are a cancer causing mold, causing dogs to become ill when they eat the food. Iams, Diamond dog food, are just some examples of dog foods that are cancerous for your pet. We are trying to raise awareness about this carcinogenic mold being infested in dog foods. Most pet owners have no clue what they're dog may be eating.
Welcome to our page, with your help and ours, we can make a difference in our community. Our project is on Lymphoma cancer in dogs, and we chose this topic because it is the most common cancer in canines. The chemical 2,4-D is very dangerous to dogs because when owners spray the chemical on their lawns to kill weeds, if dogs ingest the chemical, they are twice as likely to get lymphoma cancer. The risk of Lymphoma among dogs dropped if the chemical was used less frequently, but even just one use per season raised the cancer risk to one third higher than when dog owners didn’t use the chemical. There is also a possibility that humans can be affected by 2,4-D. Most dogs that get this cancer are more than ten years of age. We are hoping to spread the awareness about how 2,4-D is hurting these dogs. We also want to help stop people using these products because they aren’t just killing weeds, they’re killing dogs. And we want to stop that.
